Rosy Barb (Barbus Conchonius)

Rosy barb is a Beautiful and attractive freshwater fish or also known as Red Barb. Rosy barb commonly found in tropical South Asia, particularly in Thailand, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and India. They are sometimes called the rainbow barb. Rosy barb belongs to the Cyprinidae family. Often they are incorrectly called “rosy reds”.


Rosy barb is a gentle giant freshwater Cyprinus fish, Rosy barb scientific name is Barbus conchonius. These are large, robust, and popular community fish. They can grow up to 2 to 3 inches in size. They tend to be bottom-dwellers. They have bright, vibrant colors that are sure to attract your attention. As long as you keep the environment safe and keep an eye on your fish, you’ll have years of enjoyment from them.


Rosy barb has a black spot in the back. Rosy barb male has more bright and vibrant Pinkish red Color than Rosy barb female. It is a great fish to have in your aquarium because it has a vibrant coloring and an active lifestyle. This species will accept other members of your tank such as other fish and driftwood.

You have to clean the tank regularly and change 50% water weekly and you need to do this properly. Do not keep one or two rosy barb in the aquarium tank. they can be depressed and they can sick easily so minimum keep 6 or more rosy barb or other fishes in an aquarium tank

The minimum tank for rosy barb is 20 to 25 Gallon. it will ensure that your fish will get sufficient space to swim around freely. You should make sure that when you have your tank set up, you do not overwater the tank. Rushing fish into a large tank full of water can cause them to get sick. They believe that once they have eaten all of their food then they will gain size very fast But This is a wrong assumption and you should be avoide them From this process your fish become ill.

Rosy barb is Aggressive fish. Rosy barb can live together with a few other fishes in an aquarium tank like Gold ram cichlid, Silver shark, Molly, Guppy, Bloodfin tetra, zebra danio, Neon tetra, and other small fins fishes.

Rosy barb fish can live up to 4 to 5 years or more but it only depends on your care, water condition, and Diet.

Rosy barb prefer cold Water temperature as well as the warm temperature so you can maintain your tank Water temperature up to (22°C to 25°C) Celcius degrees.

PH Level

You should maintain the ph level of your tank from ( 6.5 to 7) ph
